HAITI RELIEF FUND
Saint Andre’s School in Hinche, Haiti. Following the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, we have heard, via former parishioner Mike Lapsys, that some of his American associates in Hinche have reported that they felt the quake, but there was little damage to Hinche. Thus, we have reason to hope that the school and the children survived. Also, because of the late afternoon timing of the quake we assume that there would not have been children in the school at that time.
Please pray for all Haitians and especially our friends at St. Andre’s School.
We will update this information when more is available.
February 1st Update -Thanks to the generosity of our parish members, friends, and families, we have raised $10,000. We can use much more! Little outside help has arrived in Hinche as of yet. Fr.Walin deCamps is overwhelmed with the demands for clothing, food, sheets, blankets, and all the other essentials of basic living for the refugees. People have left Port-au-Prince with nothing but the clothes on their backs. He has opened the school courtyard to people who have no place to stay. Parents are asking to have their children placed in school. We are discussing the possibility of adding an afternoon session. We have reestablished email and cell phone communication with Walin. We are sending a second round of money this week, and will send more each week until our funds run out.
HAITI RELIEF FUND- in view of the enormous demands being placed upon the Hinche community in which Saint Andre’s School is located due to the recent earthquake in Port-au-Prince, our ministry team is recommending that St. Dunstan’s Church and our friends support the school and community of Hinche with our donations. With the focus of resources going to the hard-hit quake zone, few are considering the coming crisis inland. Hinche is already becoming a “safe” refuge for those fleeing the hazards and desperate conditions in and around Port-au-Prince.
